Different Responsibilities of Amersham Town Council and Bucks Council

The different levels of local authority bodies can sometimes make it confusing as to who is responsible for what, so here is a, hopefully, helpful summary.

Amersham Town Council has responsibility for:

– Public gardens and parks
– Children’s play areas
– Sporting facilities (not the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre)
– Woodlands
– Residential Street Lighting (but not on A roads)
– Allotments
– Cemeteries
– Amersham in Bloom (this is an award winning collaboration between Town Council staff and brilliant volunteers)

There are currently 15 elected Amersham Town Councillors who all carry out their duties as volunteers. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected from this group of Councillors and carry out this extra duties also in a voluntary capacity.

Buckinghamshire Council has responsibility for:

– Education
– Social Services
– Highways and footpaths (including carparks and pothole repair)
– Libraries
– Council Tax
– Planning
– Environmental Health
– Waste (including recycling)
